PROFILE COLLECTION #3: REBELLIONS Electrifying, abrasive, furious and hypnotic graphics full of energy make up Collection #3 of VelvetBanana. The collection was initially inspired by the symbolic resemblance between the teenage riots in a post-punk concert in the mid 80s (as well as today) and the Latin American revolutionary demonstrations in the 70s and their esthetics. VelvetBanana wants to express its fascination for this and capture all that fury and the power of young energy it demonstrates. The final touch comes from Sonic Youth, Be Your Own Pet and These New Puritans, among others, who flood the atmosphere with their brilliant sounds and spirit. The collection also includes the re-edition of two of the graphics composed of undulated lines which originally appeared in Collection #1. Both of them perfectly evoke the spirit of REBELLIONS.
VELVETBANANA VelvetBanana was born in the summer of 2005 with the idea of redefining the ART ROCK T-SHIRT with thematic series. All our collections try to represent the emotions and textures of selected songs and bands. The first collection was developed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, an excellent place to start from, due to the strong music environment around there. The name VelvetBanana® arises as an homage to The Velvet Underground and the “banana cover” made by Andy Warhol for their first album “The Velvet Underground and Nico” (1967). * Part of the photo shoot was inspired by the performance of “The Velvet Underground and Nico” in the Erupting Plastic Inevitable event (1966), in which the band played behind a movie screen with a projection of Nico’s face.
